Facebook 'n' We

Facebook has been phenomenal - A company that started just in 2004 is valued at close to $70b, as of today. The CEO, who is just 27 years old ,made a fortune of $10b at this stage of his life itself. It should be remembered that "The Geniuses" Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had passed their prime age when they aggrandized such monies !

How could Facebook achieve that ? What makes it 'click' among the 60 million users around the globe ? This blog is about that. Stop , I'm not going to write about Technical aspects of FB ; But about the Human aspects- How FB captivated People!

The FB's idea is very simple : There are so many people in the world, who don't know what to do with their time. You just engage them, everything else will fall in place.

At the outset ,how do people join Facebook ?
It's a Pure social pressure - Your BF/GF /F is on FB.Aint you ?As per the world, if you are not on FB ,you don't exist !

What do people do in Facebook ?
Mindlessly add every chick /chap in the FB to your friends list, just to flaunt your friends count !

What encourages people to spend time on Facebook ?
Appreciation and Recognition. Majority of the human beings are low in self-confidence and do only those things which others approve of .But they don't get such "approve of " occasions in their life; That's where FB pitches in - Your friends are lured to queue up to appreciate you, on your Wall Post,Pictures, links, videos, tags, etc. by a tacit quid-prod-quo agreement ! Appreciation is addiction - As the time goes on, your appetite for appreciations increases and you indulge "living" on FB, literally.

And,
Girls are more getting more addicted to FB than Guys ! - What else would you expect, when tons are friends (esp Guys) post comments for a Wall post just as stupid as "I'm happy 2day!" :) :)

And about the special "like" button of FB ?
It's the best example of how simple an Idea as "like" could change the way people lived ! This helps the laziest of the lazes - They don't even need to punch some keys ; just click "like" and get "Thanks" appreciation from your friend ! By that "like", they spend much lesser time than to comment and still get a reward ! How easy ? ! I know a guy who is slave-to-that like - He always clicks like rather than comment.Always !

If friends appreciations are enough, what FB games & Other applications do ?
Once people started "living" on FB,slowly they find themselves lonely -without any of their friends online on FB to "comment" or "like " .Thence-after they turn their attention to Games and Other applications that feed their laziness. And become completely addicted.

Isn't FB just a fad ?
I believe it is ! People would soon start recognizing how they waste time on FB and start moving on.But FB is doing so many things to make people stick to FB - For instance, it eliminated the Registration ,each time you want to access a site- Now people can login to those sites with their FB id itself !.And one another interesting thing is FB badges. You can let your "presence-felt" throughout the Internet using Badges.

FB is simply trying to monopolize the vast Internet, spread across Continents ! I wished to write a detailed blog about this FB, but it would become too much too do with Human Psychology, which would dissuade people to follow this post and hence I'm stopping here.

Students, Do Some thinking...

If you want to learn, you have to be an empty-cup ,says Robin Sharma. But,as a student, are you an empty-cup? Are you trying to learn from your Teachers or are you spending your time in finding his/her fault ?

There are certain pertinent questions that I ruminate :

Why are we all so critical ?
Why do we always waste our time in evaluating others ?
Why do we keep blaming others ?
Why do we complain about others ?
Why do spend so much of time just to pin-point others' mistakes ?
Why don't we take them as they are ?

The answer lies in "how we were treated in childhood". If you are an average (including below-par) intelligent guy, then everyone in your surroundings would have compared you with some other fellow and mocked at your intelligence - Your "self " starts taking a blow there and you start feeling uncomfortable slightly. When the same mocking continues, you begin to feel a little different ,not-okay-with-yourself feelings ,which finally snowball into something called complex. And that's where the problem starts. When you are in complex, you start looking at others;start observing them;start comparing with them ;start judging them either as Superior / Inferior to you. In fact,we long to label others as Inferior to us.When you judge others as inferior, you become critical, you start complaining, you start blaming, you waste time on fault-finding. When you do so,your personal ego gets a mild, unsaid, devilish-pleasure and that keeps you on-a-high for some time. You become a slave-to-that-pleasure,unbeknown to yourself, and you go on criticizing others, just to be on-that-high ! And you don't mind, even if that others, are your Teachers ! You just go on that mindless rampage, incessantly!

For brilliant-guys,the case would have been altogether different . He starts snubbing at others right from the day when others start extolling him of his comparative brilliance and he judges others as Inferiors.

So as a student, when we spend time on judging them especially Teachers, what are we doing to them ? What are we doing to us ? Do some thinking ...

But remember, the culprit is a single word - "Comparison". DOT.

This is how I started talking to girls...

While I was taking Sathya to Tiruvermbur in my bike, we were having a conversation about our first incident of talking to girls. We were teasing and mocking at each other. A few moments later, I thought of translating those vivid-memories of mine into something of a written form .And that’s how I got the idea for this blog J

I wanna pen about 2 of my experiences, though those incidents are slightly embarrassing !

During my HSC:

I’m just a guy who didn’t get an opportunity to study in a co-education school like so many poor-souls out there .Though my school was not co-ed, my tuition was! It had been more than a year, we had been attending tuitions along with gals, but we never used to talk to gals at all. We used to sit as separate groups for gals & guys and each group would act as if the other group didn’t exist.

On an average day, my friend and I were coming out of school, walking, with our cycles. To our surprise, we saw 2 of our tuition gals standing at the entrance of our school and waiting for somebody. We thought that they might be waiting to talk to our Tuition Teachers who were working in our school .But suddenly, One of the gals started walking towards me – It’s just a walking, but you know what happened to me – My heart beats started pulsating and I could hear them loud enough so much so that the outside world sounds got muted , my hands started sweating and my legs started twitching unconsciously. As she started coming closer and closer, the surrounding environment slowly got blurred, just like in movies, and that only gal’s picture was visible. And when she just came near and wanted to ask something, I thought I was all ears. But alas, I wasn't. And what I remember, at the end of that incident, was an unexpected weird-look the gal gave. My friend told me that I was incessantly blinking and nervously laughing when she was asking something. And when she asked me about “Whether we have tuition tomorrow?”, I started blabbering something without even looking at her. And when she asked again I mumbled something this time - I wasn’t mentally prepared to handle such situations hitherto L and that’s why she gave that weird look and left that place! When I think about that incident even now, I feel how pathetic and amusive I was.

During my 1st year @ MIT:

After a heavy Friday night dinner at MIT NV mess, my other class friend and I were walking so lethargically that we found it very hard to move even 100 feet. You could imagine how much we could have eaten then J .And I saw my classmate, yeah a girl, was heading our way to the exit, along with her father .When she was coming near us, I noticed something different in her - She was wearing fresh Jasmine flowers. Out of the blue, she stopped in front of us and started introducing me to his father. Taken by surprise, I became alert, regained my posture and started talking to her and his father .That was what I thought. BUT I WASN’T.I blanked-out this time too – You cannot blame me this time; this time, the culprit was Jasmine flowers. Yes the Jasmine flower’s fragrance! OMG! I never knew flowers’ fragrance could drive you crazy like that. Her father was asking me about studies, new environment, food etc. but I was just nodding my head with a smiling face, just like Subramaniapuram Jai, looking at her without answering even a single question of his! Sensing something odd, her father cut-short the conversation, said bye and left away. As usual, my friend explained about what had transpired later and laughed at me. Yeah, I laughed too! :O
